Maintaining the normal vaginal fluid acidity is important for vaginal functions (Wagner and Levin 1984). Estrogen has been shown essential in maintaining the acidity of vaginal fluid, in which its deficiency could cause vaginal fluid pH to increase (Gorodeski et al. 2005). After menopause, low estro

  2023-10-19

It is increasingly evident that many metabolic genes are associated with cancer progression of various tumor cells, including NSCLC. In particular, GLUT1 overexpression has been reported in NSCLC, and correlations between GLUT1 expression and a number of clinical parameters such as gender, smoking s

In considering the roles of these enzymes in normal physiology, given the importance of GLUT4-dependent glucose uptake and glucose-dependent fatty Cy7 NHS ester synthesis for systemic metabolic homeostasis (Herman and Kahn, 2006, Herman et al., 2012), deletion of Acly in adipocytes results in a sur

Human hepatocyte transplantation resulted in some animals with relatively sparse repopulation while others had >90% of their liver containing human hepatocytes. The presence of circulating human albumin varied based on the amount of repopulation as the degree of humanization is reported to correlate

TUNEL assay. Apoptotic DNA fragmentation in ZSTK474 was measured using a commercially available TUNEL assay kit (Thermo Fisher). Frozen cells were fixed with 10% paraformaldehyde/PBS. Apoptosis was determined by staining the 3′-OH ends of fragmented DNA with biotin-dNTP using DNA I klenow fragment

  2023-10-19

There is a delicate balance between ROS generation and scavenging by the protective antioxidant defenses in the cell. Antioxidant systems present in the Deferiprone include enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalases, glutathione peroxidases (GPxs) and peroxiredoxins (PRxs) (Fig. 3) [38]. SO

However, joint reviews and the consensus from experts offer disparate recommendations with regard to their management in the context of anesthesia, whereas some reviews [6], [7] set out certain doubts regarding their use during the perioperative period. On the other hand, the guidelines for the mana

• The apocrine sweat glands of the human axilla produce odor

  2023-10-18

The apocrine sweat glands of the human axilla produce odor substances with pheromone functions whose nature corresponds to volatile steroids (Cowley and Brooksbank, 1991, Grosser et al., 2000, Sobel et al., 1999, Weller, 1998). These functions only begin with puberty, indicating that sex hormones st

  2023-10-18

Negative regulation of AR expression by NFκB was also correlated with the ‘age-dependent desensitisation’ of androgen action in the rat liver (Supakar et al., 1995). In this case the binding site was mapped upstream of the gene to sequences −555 to −565 bp, that binds heterodimers of p65 and p50, as

Voluminous literature about the neuroendocrine mechanism of reproduction and energy regulation has emerged from studies involving mammalian species. Acknowledgments and Disclosures Introduction In mammals, ejaculated sperm requires a finite period of residence in the female reproductive tract to become competent for fertilization (Visconti et al., 1995a, Visconti et al., 1995b). Once oocytes are matured, it is important for these cells to
