  2024-01-23

Introduction Epilepsy is characterized by spontaneous recurrent seizures and represents one of the most frequent neurological diseases affecting about 60 million people worldwide (McNamara, 1999). It is estimated that up to 50% of all cases are triggered by “initial precipitating injuries”, such

• Tension within the network could be

  2024-01-23

Tension within the network could be explained by two potential mechanisms: the more classical contractility that is dependent on motor proteins that are pulling H 89 filaments towards each other [10]; or contractility that is caused by disassembly of a crosslinked network of actin filaments [2]. To

  2024-01-23

The relatively high concentration of 5-HT used in this study (100 µM) is consistent with the concentrations used in other published ex vivo studies (Ropert and Guy, 1991, Passani et al., 1994, Shen and Andrade, 1998). In our paradigm 5-HT was focally applied at the surface of the slice via a fast pe

  2024-01-23

Similar to V1, the temporal neocortex of mammals, including the primary auditory cortex (A1), is densely innervated by 5-HT fibers originating mainly in the dorsal raphe nucleus (Campbell et al., 1987, Harding and Paxinos, 2004, Törk, 1990), and the major cam kinase ii of 5-HTRs are expressed throu

The 15-LOX hydroxide metabolites are converted to secondary lipid mediators such as lipoxin A4 from 15-HETE and protectin D1/resolvin D1 from 17-HDoHE [45] (Fig. S3). Importantly, all of these secondary lipid mediators have anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving properties [46], [47], [48]. Lipoxin A4

  2024-01-23

Furthermore, a study in Drosophila has reported that Dpatj can interact directly with Dmpar6 providing another potential mechanism linking the Crb to the Par complex [163]. In contrast, Wang et al. in 2004 [63] have shown that at least in MDCK epithelial cells, PAR6 binding to PALS1 interferes with

  2024-01-23

Finally, terbinafine is generally associated with a low index of toxicity and few adverse effects. In humans, only mild GI toxicity and hepatobiliary dysfunction are reported. In red-tailed hawks, oral administration of a high dose of terbinafine (120 mg/kg BW) was furthermore demonstrated to induce

Introduction Breast cancer is the second most lethal cancer among women, accounting for approximately 40,000 deaths in the United States in 2015 [1]. The prognosis of breast cancer has improved significantly with the identification of immunohistochemical subtypes that predict response to therapy

The application of diuretics induce an increased rate of water exiting brain cells encouraging the formation of increased intracellular polyphosphoric acid. In the absence of the diuretic water is retained in cells converting polyphosphoric minocycline hydrochloride to monophosphoric acid. The latt

A limitation of the 2011 NIA-AA recommendations was that biomarkers were grouped into just two categories—amyloid and tau-related neurodegeneration. Tauopathy and neurodegeneration were placed into the same biomarker category. In persons with only AD, it is reasonable to assume that neurodegeneratio

Tropomyosin-related kinases (Trks) play crucial role in neurotrophin-mediated cellular activities, including neuronal differentiation, survival, and synaptic function [37] through activating downstream signaling mediators PI3K and Akt [38]. In a therapeutic context, Akt has been shown to mediate str

With one exception, all receptors for dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), and norepinephrine are metabotropic receptors. The five metabotropic DA receptors (D1–D5) in the CNS are involved in motivation, pleasure, cognition, learning, memory, fine motor control, and modulate neuroen

Given these findings above, we hypothesized that hypernociception produced by intra-amygdala 8-OH-DPAT is result of hyperpolarization in this area. This neuronal inhibition of the amygdaloid complex might result in an inactivation of crucial neurotransmitter systems of the descending inhibitory pain

Adenosine receptors and the adaptive immunity T lymphocytes are responsible for the cell-mediated immune response [95]. These cells can be stimulated by the presentation of antigenic moieties by APCs, such as dendritic cells or macrophages [96]. The presentation of antigenic molecules on the APC

  2024-01-22

The ARHL locus (ahl) that contributes to the hearing loss in the C57BL/6J mouse has been mapped to chromosome 10 (Erway et al., 1993, Johnson et al., 1997). It has been shown that strains susceptible to early onset ARHL carry a specific mutation in the cadherin 23 gene (Cdh23), which encodes a compo
