AD and COX/5-LOX pharmacology Early studies on the role of cyclooxygenases in AD were inspired by epidemiological data suggesting that COX inhibitors such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) could be beneficial in AD patients (Lucca et al., 1994, McGeer et al., 1990). This line of re

The syntheses of 27a and 27b are shown in Scheme 5. Substituted naphthalene 21c was brominated using N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) and 2,2′-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) to yield 25, which was subjected to lactam cyclization to form 26a and 26b, respectively. Deprotections of each nigericin yield

Among the most important Ca regulatory mechanisms are the Plasma Membrane Calcium ATPase (PMCA) and Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Calcium ATPase (SERCA). These pumps belong to the family of P-ATPases, which share the formation of an acid-stable phosphorylated intermediate as part of their reaction cycle. P

  2024-08-17

AT2 signaling is distinct to that of AT1 (Kaschina and Unger, 2003). As shown here, opposite to the stimulating effect of AT1 signaling, it inhibits apelin secretion. Activation of AT2 receptor, which is also G-protein coupled, is known to decrease cAMP and cGMP levels by inhibiting adenylyl cyclase

The regulation of gene expression by glucocorticoids can be mediated either by the canonical mechanism that involves the interaction of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), a transcription factor activated by the hormone, with glucocorticoid response element (Ye et al., 2007), or by the non-canonical m

Mechanism of action In general, the main targets for antifungal drug development are cell wall polymer (glucans, chitin, mannoproteins), cell membrane (especially ergosterol) biosynthesis, DNA and protein synthesis (topoisomerases, nucleases, elongation factors and myristoylation), and signal tra

Several studies have explored the relationship between dental implants and MRONJ development. López-Cedrún JL et al. 2024-08-16

Tumor tissues often experience hypoxia owing to accelerated growth rates of malignant cells, accumulation of metabolic products, disorganization of tumor blood vessels, and high interstitial fluid pressures (Makino et al., 2001). In response to AAD treatment, tumor vascular density often decreases t

MAPs require divalent transition metal ions as cofactors for activity [21]. Previous studies on MAPs from different organisms indicate cobalt ions to be the most preferred divalent metal activator [22]. However, MAPs also exhibit activity with other divalent cations like Mn(II), Ca(II), Ni(II) or Fe
